Residency Intake for New Academic Year 2015-2016

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is the largest government healthcare institution providing healthcare services across Qatar. HMC was the first academic healthcare system in the region to achieve the prestigious international institutional accreditation from the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I) which was received in November 2012.

In July 2013, seven Residency Training Programs at HMC also successfully achieved ACGME-I’s international program accreditation More HMC residency programs are in the process of applying for international program accreditation and are expected to achieve it this year.

The Medical Education Department is pleased to announce that it will start receiving new applications for HMC Residency Training Programs for the new academic year 2015 - 2016 from August 10th, 2014.

The HMC Residency Training Programs academic year officially starts on July 1st every year in alignment with ACGME-I standards.

Priority will be given to applicants who are recent medical graduates and those who have completed their Internship within the last three years.

Applicants must have successfully completed 12 months of a Rotating or Straight Internship (refer to FAQs for more details).

Eligible applicants should have passed USMLE Step 2 CK or IFOM-CSE exam and TOEFL or IELTS (academic level) at the time of applying for a residency program (please refer to FAQs for more details).

The Medical Education Department will only accept completed applications submitted with examination results. An incomplete application will not be accepted or considered for review. Applications sent by fax or email will also not be accepted.

All applications must be computer typed. Any hand written applications will not be accepted.

Family and friends can submit applications on behalf of the candidate but applications must be completed and signed off personally by the applicant.

Any information provided MUST be accompanied with documented evidence or verification including all qualifications, clinical training and work experience detailed in the CV.

Completed applications must include the documents listed below:

  • Up-to-date CV
  • 8 Photos (recent passport size with white background)
  • Copy of passport including personal information page, issue date and expiry date.
  • Passport copy must be valid for at least six months before the expiry date.
  • For local candidates living in Qatar, a copy of your residence permit in Qatar is required.
  • Letter of personal intent (see FAQs for details)
  • Copy of medical degree certificate
  • Copy of internship certificate
  • Copy of clinical experience/house officer
  • All USMLE exam results Step 1 and Step 2 CK
  • IFOM-CSE results
  • TOEFL or IELTS results
Completed applications with the required supporting documents must be delivered personally to GME Coordinators at the Medical Education Department or sent by express mail to the following mailing address:

Any application missing the documents listed above will not be accepted or reviewed by the Medical Education Department.

Completed applications must be submitted to Medical Education Department before the closing date of November 30th, 2014 @ 15:00 hrs Doha local time.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to Qatar for personal interviews in January 2015.

HMC will help shortlisted applicants from abroad to obtain a visit visa for Qatar.

Shortlisted applicants invited to Qatar for personal interviews will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses during the interviews.

Shortlisted applicants must provide copies of their passport which must be valid for at least six months before the expiry date for visa purposes.
